Leeches do not suck dirty blood, as is known among the people. On the contrary, leeches look for the cleanest place to suckle. The area to be leeched should be thoroughly cleaned with water. Any cleaning agent, perfume, cream, sweat etc. In places with a smell, leeches do not hold.
Leeches, which are rapidly becoming extinct, should not be considered as medical waste and should be recycled. In scientific studies, it has been determined that leeches have the digestion that can destroy even viruses that enter their bodies in 3 months. For this reason, leeches kept in the natural environment for 4-6 months become reusable after being cleaned of all kinds of diseases.
Like many living things, leeches are also sexually reproducing creatures. They reproduce by laying eggs called cocoon. Although they do not have a specific spawning period, it has been observed that they produce more dense cocoon in seasonal transitions (April-May, October-November). Leeches are bisexual, both male and female, and cannot mate on their own. As in all other living things, some hormonal changes occur during pregnancy. During this period (April-May, October-November), complaints such as vomiting blood in leeches, inability to adhere to the patient, and allergic reactions are very common. For this reason, leeches should not be applied during the breeding period or one should be prepared for such reactions.
Leeches that have sucked blood or vomited are unhealthy, they must be kept in their natural environment for at least three months in order to be reused so that they can regenerate the enzymes they have secreted.
Leeches are referred to as parasites in the literature. If you try to sterilize the parasites, they will die. External surface cleaning can be done with some disinfectant drugs. Disinfecting does not mean sterilizing. Such claims are for commercial profit purposes and do not reflect the truth.
